Visa: nightmare, "misplaced" paperwork. Took 4 weeks instead of the promised 8-10 days.
Medical precautions: not too bad (thank you, Peace Corps). Shots include Hep A & B, typhoid, polio, and tetanus, plus anti-malarial meds. I'd had all as an adult, tetanus booster last year (lucky), and can take typhoid meds orally. Awesome.
Background reading: not so hot. Trouble concentrating. I have 3 really good books to read...uh, soon.
Packing: vexing. 50 pound limit for international flight. 33 lbs. for domestic travel. Bummer.
Money: HA!
Family: hard to think about. This will be a tough separation for all of us, I think.
